Buying Cheap Bicycle for Children : A False Economy?

Bikes for Children
Children need and deserve good quality bikes. On a bicycle, a child can develop physical co-ordination and experience freedom and motion. To a child, a light, easy-to-ride bicycle is just like a car to an adult: it’s a set of wheels, personal transport, and the key to independent travel. Lightness and quality are the really important things to look for. Give a child a bike that is too heavy or too stiff to ride, and like all bad toys it will be too quickly discarded, because it is no fun to play with.

False Economy
Stores are full of cheap children’s bicycles that are sold on the premise that there is little point in spending more because a child will soon outgrow it. Buying cheap is unlikely to pay off and could even put a child off cycling for life. By contrast, investing in a good quality bike may seem extravagant in the short term, but it sure to give a child many hours of enjoyable play, and grasp of traffic and road sense.

Sizing a Mountain Bike

Sizing and Safety
You need to be able to move the bike around underneath you without bruising your thighs, and to have the confidence to take a fall without any serious injury.

Crotch Clearance
For off-road riding, have at least 3-4 in (8 to 10 cm) clearance from the crotch to the top tube.

Too Big
A high top tube is fine for town riding and smooth road touring, but you will still need at least 1 in (2.5 cm) of clearance. A top tube that fits too snugly might lead to a painful accident.

Too Small
A very low top tube means that it is easier to perform stunts and tricks on the bike. However, unless you are small, the reach wil be too short, and the ride very uncomfortable.

Think Small
Many first-time mountain-bike riders feel more comfortable on a frame that is actually larger than they need. Smaller frames are much more manoeuvrable, lighter, and safer. Select the smallest frame that gives you a good averall fit.

Bicycle Riding Learning Tips for Children

Learning to Ride
A child’s work is play. Learning to ride a bike should be a natural extension of that play. It is one of the great moments of childhood, the sudden discovery that you can ride a bike, the sense of triumph at being able to propel yourself along. It should be easy, yet so often we get it wrong by trying to teach a child to ride instead of letting the child discover how to ride. A common mistake is to add a set of stabilsers to the two-wheeler of a child who cannot ride. They prevent the child from experiencing the balance the bike requires. The process outlined here works because it is built around letting the child learn at his or her own speed. It works for countless children and it never failed. Make every step fun, don’t hurry it, and move on only when the child is ready and wants to try some new

The Right Bike
To aid confidence, a child should learn on the bike that he or she is going ride regularly. It should be set up so that the child’s can reach the brake lever easily.

Wrong Way to Learn
Running behind, holding the back of saddle and waiting to let go, is the hit-and-miss method. If you’re lucky, the child starts pedalling and will forget that your hand is no longer there. Invariably, when you take your hand off, your child’s confidence and sense of balance disappear with it. All you’ve done is to create unnecessary anxiety in your child.

Tips Memilih Sepeda Gunung Untuk Pemula

    • Gaya Bersepeda
      • Untuk pemula, sepeda gunung umumnya digunakan untuk Rekreasi – Bersepeda Santai, Komuter – Bike-to-Work (b2w) atau Lintas Alam Ringan (Light Cross Country).
      • Para penghobi serius sepeda gunung melakukan explorasi trek off road, dari cross country (XC) sampai dengan all mountain (AM). Ada juga yang melakukan Freeride (FR), Downhill (DH) dan Dirtjump (DJ).
    • Anggaran Belanja Sepeda Gunung.

  • Beli Sepeda Jadi (Full Bike) atau Sepeda Rakitan (Build A Bike)?
      • Komponen Rangka (Frame Parts)
      • Komponen Roda (Wheel Parts)
      • Komponen Transmisi (Transmision Parts).
